People Suffering from Migraines More Inclined To Be Depressed

Patients with headache, especially migraine disorder, are more prone to suffer from depression, feel worn-out, and have a host of other strict physical symptoms, according to a clinical study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical study involved 1500 women who buy citalopram at headache clinics in four states. Of the patients tested, 343 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 443 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical research found women with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also four times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among women diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical study found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the man also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms may agitate or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in people with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt and Major Depression could heighten pain perception,” said medical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Manic Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Depression could be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the link between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disease such as Manic Depression complicates headache management and can rouse poorer consequences for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The medical study was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American man are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 16000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to ameliorating patients care through enlightenment and clinical investigation. A neurologist is a surgeon with specialized training in monitoring, curing and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and frequent sclerosis.
